Stochastic and stochastic-3

Recently, there has been a lot of confusion as to when one should you use stochastic versus stochastic-3 screening.

The answer is pretty simple. If your input is screened then use stochastic, otherwise use stochastic-3. If you mistakenly use stochastic screening for a contone job, the symptoms are large smooth areas in your output giving the impression of solarisation. This is not really the case, your eyes just see these large smooth areas as patterns and pick them out. Stochastic-3 ensures that patterns do not occur and is suited for printers that support variable dot sizes. Most inkjets these days support variable dot sizes.
