Getting Crash Logs on the Mac

If you are running Version 3 Serendipity Blackmagic or Version 4 Serendipity Megarip Server or Client on the Mac and either of them crash, then it is very useful to get the crash log from the Mac for the application that had the problem. This can help us to determine what was happening at the time of the crash. If you send the crash log together with the server and client logs to support at the time of reporting the issue then it can help with a quicker diagnosis and fix.

The crash logs are located in the user library folder under Logs > CrashReporter. There are three logs associated with Serendipity Blackmagic/Megarip which are

bmserver.crash.log - The Blackmagic Server log
bmagic.crash.log - The Server window log (Less important as the server can still run without the window displayed)
ssclient.crash.log - The Client crash log

You can either get the logs directly from the Finder window or you can save a copy from the Console. Here is what you do.

Go to Utilities in the Finder and launch the Console

Then click on the Console icon titled Logs at the top left corner of the window. This will show the logs that have been generated.

Then select ~/Library/Logs and then CrashReporter.

Crashreport
Select the correct log from the list and and then select “Save a Copy As” from the File menu.

Save the log somewhere safe and send it to us along with the Client and Server logs.

This is only available on the Mac Platform.
